Experience Seattle
We love Seattle and have made it our home for the last 7 year. We’re so excited to share it with you. Keep scrolling to discover our favorite places around town.
Explore
Seattle is dotted with so much to do OUTSIDE! You may have the perception that it rains here all the time, when it’s not, and even when it is, there’s so much to see! We’ve put a short list of our favorite places to go in town! But don’t forget - you can also walk on to the ferry from downtown Seattle to Bainbridge Island to explore even more!
Discovery Park - where we got engaged! What we like to refer to as an “urban hike” we recommend comfortable shoes, and be ready for some stairs/steep hills if you go down to the beach
Ballard Locks Fish Ladder - and engineering feat. and a beautiful botanical garden. Walk across the locks from Ballard to check out the Salmon Ladder- there may still be some fish headed upstream! Also be on the look out for sea lions playing in the froth.
Olympic Sculpture Park - Walk through a Richard Sera installation, stare up at the Calder statue and see the beautiful puget sound. Then walk along the newly redeveloped waterfront to the Seattle Aquarium
Gas Works Park - Designed by the founder of the UW Landscape Architecture Department on a former Refinery. Do you remember that scene in 10 Things I Hate About You when Heath Ledge and Julia Stiles play paint ball? That was at Gas Works! Catch perfect view of Seattle at the top of the hill, and admire al the bridges that connect the city.
Eat + Drink
One thing Leah + Matt have always connected on is their love of good food. The map below has all the spots, but we wanted to highlight our favorites:
Saint Bread - Breakfast, lunch and dinner all on the water. Vote one of the best Bakery’s in the US by NYTimes. No frill, order at the counter and seat yourself
Sabine Cafe & Bar - Mediterranean influenced bites for breakfast and lunch. Scoot around the back in the evening for a fun tapas dinner and drink spot!
Kamonegi (reservation advised) - drink sake and stay Soba is their catch phrase. Chef Soma creates fresh Soba noodles daily. Oh and their tempura is incredible. Matts favorite is the Duck Nanban. If “Kabocha Wings” are on the menu we 10/10 recommend.
Hannyatou - if you do have to wait for a seat at Kamonegi, Pop two doors down into their sister Sake Bar! Japanese pickles and a wide selection of Sake will kick your evening off right! You could also just eat here with a playful menu of Japanese bar food, developed specifically to go well with Sake!
The Walrus and the Carpenter - Great for oysters and a light drink. The seating is first come first serve, so if you don’t get there right at 4pm, we recommend putting your name down and squeezing into Barnacle the amaro bar right next door for a cocktail and olives while you wait!
Made In house - Modern Korean home cooking. it’s simply the best. Matt recommends the Japchae Noodle Bop, and Leah always get’s the Stone Pot Bibimbop.
Lupo - if a sourdough stone fired pizza doesn’t resonate with you don’t come here. Great cocktails, great wine, and delicious fresh pizza pie.
Deep Dive - This is where we went for drinks after we got engaged! It’s the bar under the Spheres — yes — Jeff Bezo’s Balls. But it’s worth a visit! A Curtis Steiner art installation turned cocktail lounge. Eclectic vintage speakeasy vibe, with an outstanding cocktail menu.
Donna’s - No, not Matt’s moms place, but both make outstanding pasta! Pop into Donna’s on capitol hill for a Seattle classic. Order fresh made pasta at the bar along with a glass of wine or playful cocktail!
Pacific Inn and Pub - Looking for a dive bar experience? look no further. Pacific Inn has great fish and chips, indoor and outdoor seating, you can even catch some sort of ball game here!
